About
YAMAHA RY20 is a 12-bit PCM drum machine with a reverb effect.
YAMAHA RY20 (1994)
RY20 Overview
RY20 uses AWM engine - seemingly related to TG100 GM synth module. It seems to use 12-bit PCM, if YAMAHA kept their usual terminology - they use AWM for 12-bit, and AWM2 for 16-bit PCM. Unlike it's big brother RY30, it's not deeply editable.
2 waveforms layered without a filter.
Pitch, Decay, Pan, Velocity modulations (to level, pitch, waveform balance, etc.) can be modified by relative change..
One reverb/delay effect.
12 Velocity sensitive pads and a Jog dial make a good interface.
Besides usual drum kits, there is a melody part.
Sound Examples
Here are some .mp3 examples of RY20. No effects used except where indicated.
Related Models
YAMAHA RY30 is the first machine of the RY series. RY30 uses AWM2 engine (16-bit PCM with multimode filters), based on TG55 synthesizer. It's fully editable, and can be used as a good synthesizer.
YAMAHA RY30 (1990)
RY20 seems to use YAMAHA TG100 engine - 2 PCM (12-bit) layered without a filter, editable with relative changes. Later models, RY8 and RY9 seem to share this architecture.
