Roland MC-303
Overview
GS-based PCM synth
MC-303 is a GS-based PCM synth.
Most of its specification is the same with the GS format synth,
SoundCanvas SC-55mkII -
28 polyphonic, relative change editing of limited parameters, Chorus/Reverb FX.
Indeed the first segment of MC-303's patch data reads "GS Sound Source."
MC-303 specific features
MC-303 can be seen as a version of GS synth with techno-oriented samples.
There are very subtle differences with SC-55mkII;
MC-303 has one added parameter - LFO waveform.
But, unfortunately, MIDI channel parameter is gone -
layering is not readily available.
To use MC-303 as multi-timbral synth via MIDI,
the Sound Module Mode should be used.
In the Sound Module Mode, it seems the Attack parameter works differently.
As far as I tested, the attack segment is looped and creates something like tremolo effect.
This envelope loop function does not exist not only in MC-303 normal mode
but also in GS SoundCanvases and their base model JV-80.
(See the MC-303 sound examples page).
