GZ Series
CASIO Z series started with CZ series
in 1985 with their own newly created PD synthesis,
and came to a halt in 1988 with the VZ series
released in the name of 'CASIO professional.'
For a few years CASIO stopped making synths
except CTK-1000
released in 1993 as a CASIOTONE.
With the rise of GM standard, CASIO came back to Z again with GZ series,
this time focusing on low-cost computer music.
Later in 2000, the high-end CASIOTONE MZ-2000 came out with PCM and drawbar synthesis.
GZ series are CASIO's GM related products line.
GZ-500: keyboard version
GZ-70SP: installed in speakers
GZ-30M: small box
WG-130: daughter board version
They may be compatible with GZ-50M, but the detail is unknown.

GZ-5 is a very small MIDI master keyboard.
It has no MIDI IN and no audio out jack,
but can play sounds with the internal speaker -
it works as a 4-polyphonic rudimentary CASIOTONE.

CASIO GZ-5 (1995)
GM without a filter, editability
When GM standart was established,
many PCM playbacker without a filter came out in the lower-end product line.
Among them, E-MU Soundengine may be the most capable as a synthesizer,
as it's based on their Proteus series.
Also YAMAHA TG100
has some synthetic editability, though limited.
Even lower-end products like GZ-50M had no editability.
KAWAI Gmega LX is a 28-polyphonic PCM playbacker with 4MB ROM and one reverb effect.
KC20 is its keyboard version.
As it's a GM module and has no editability, it may be the most close competitor of GZ-50M.
KAWAI GMouse XC-1 is the simpler version of Gmega LX that can be driven by batteries.
(See also KAWAI Gmega page
for related information).

YAMAHA QY22 and QY300 are sequencers integrated with GM module.
They are 12-bit PCM playbacker without editability and a filter.
QY300 has one reverb effect.

YAMAHA QY300 (1995)
Roland DR-5 is not a GM module,
but is a PCM playbacker without a filter.
It's 19-polyphonic and has no effect.
As designed as an extended drum machine, it has one editable parameter - amplitude decay.

Roland DR-5 (1993)
KORG AG-3 has close design concept to GZ-50M.
The name suggests that it's a lower-end version of
AG-10,
but I don't know the details.
