The predecessors
In creating Casiotone 1000P's synthesis engine,
CASIO seems to have been inspired by organs that generate sounds by adding sine waves,
as is shown in their use of the term "Feet."
Organ is the prototype of additive synthesizer.
In the late 70s and early 80s, ultra-high-end synths like Fairlight CMI and New England Digital Synclavier
began to adopt additive synthesis as one of their synthesis methods.
Casiotone 1000P seems to be the first editable additive synthesizer for consumers,
though the editability is limited.
The models which are related to Casiotone 1000P are reviewed below.
Here I excluded synths like KORG DW-8000.
It has preset waveforms made by additive synthesis,
but the additive harmonics themselves can't be edited.
Also I excluded the true additive synths like KAWAI K5 and Kurzweil K150 -
they can control each harmonics' envelopes in detail.
Casiotones
As their sounds resemble that of Casiotone 1000P,
I suppose Casiotones in the early 80's use the same engine - additive synthesis.
Below is the sound examples of CASIO MT-70.
It has a built-in drum machine, but please note that my MT-70's white noise generator is broken -
the snare snappy is gone.

CASIO SD synthesizers
CASIO began to use SD synthesis engine for Casiotones in mid-80s.
While the details are not clear, I think SD is a kind of additive synthesisis
that uses pulses as basic waveforms.
SD then processes the waveforms with analog VCF.
HZ-600, HT-700, HT-3000 and HT-3500 are editable version of SD synthesizers.
See HZ / HT page for more information.
HT-6000 is the most advanced version -
a great analog/digital synthesizer with ring modulation.

SEIKO Digital Sound System
In 1983 Seiko released Digital Sound System DS series as their first synthesizer.
The series are:
DS-101 / DS-202 Keyboard
DS-310 Synthesizer Unit
DS-320 Sequencer
It seems to use additive synthesis without filter as its engine.
16 harmonics can be added.
Different "Spectrums" can be assigned to Attack, Sustain, Release segment.
MIDI interface is optional.
Judging from the specifications and list price, DS series seem to be the close competitor of Casiotone 1000P,
though DS series with DS-310 is much superior because of its full editability.
