New version unveiled at special event in NY Adapted from an article by Peter Cohen, Macworld (US) New York City’s trendy SoHo district was the setting on Tuesday 23 May for Quark’s rollout of QuarkXPress® 7, the newest version of its page layout software for Mac OS X and Windows. “The choice of SoHo as the event’s venue was an obvious one”, said Jurgen Kurz, Senior Vice President of Desktop Products. “This is the heart of the publishing industry.” QuarkXPress is widely used by magazines, newspapers, advertising agencies and design firms, marketers, printers, corporate publishers, catalog houses, and book publishers. Quark itself turns 25 years old this year. The company estimates that well over three million copies of QuarkXPress have been licensed over the years, with more than five billion QuarkXPress documents in circulation worldwide. However, Quark has seen its dominance as the pre-eminent page layout software on the market erode in recent years, primarily thanks to competition from Adobe’s InDesign® software. Industry experts are calling QuarkXPress 7 one of Quark’s most significant upgrades ever, with more than 160 new features and enhancements. A detailed review is published in the July issue of Australian Macworld (rated 3 mice). RRP $1,795 incl GST (full retail); Upgrade from v4, 5 or 6 for $595 incl GST. |
