During the Macworld San Francisco 2006 Keynote, Intel CEO Paul Otellini hands Steve Jobs a symbolic platter of Intel microchips for use in a new range of Macs that feature Core Duo Intel processors.

Adobe-Macromedia merge completed

Adobe Systems Incorporated has announced the completion of its acquisition of Macromedia, Inc. The transaction was finalized on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005.

New Product Configurations

Three new product bundles have resulted from the acquisition. More...

Two of these (for Mac and Windows) combine the existing Adobe Creative Suite Premium bundle with the latest Macromedia product releases.

Acrobat boxNew Adobe® Acrobat® 3D

Lets pro users insert and publish 3D designs from major CAD applications into Adobe PDF documents – including PDF documents created from Microsoft Office for Mac applications. The resulting PDF can then be shared using free Adobe Reader® 7 software (requires Reader version 7.07).

A demo PDF (5.4 Mb) on the Adobe site includes a 3D image you can rotate, disassemble, and play with.

Adobe Software Licensing Compliance

On 3 January 2006, Adobe launched an expanded software licensing compliance program for Australia and NZ.

Online Assessment

A new online assessment service allows users to match their own Adobe product license records with Adobe's database of licensing information. The program focuses on awareness, compliance, and education by issuing certificates of software licensing compliance to its volume license customers. More...

You can test QuarkXpress 7 Beta

Following the launch of Apple’s new iMac and MacBook Pro, Quark announced the release of the first QuarkXPress™ version to run on both Intel and Power PC-based Macs.

Free beta versions of QuarkXPress 7 are now available for trail and provide an early look at the upcoming release. Production versions of both are expected to follow later this year. More...

Intel-based Macs: Application compatibility listings

Software that’s not yet compiled for Intel processors, such as Microsoft Office, will have its code translated by Apple’s Rosetta technology.

MacFixit.com has posted a list that tracks compatibility status for PowerPC-coded applications under Rosetta on newly arrived Intel-based Macs. More...

Booting an Intel iMac from an External Drive

Intel-based Macs can't boot from older drives, and PowerPC-based Macs can't boot from newer drives. While the Intel-based Macs are mostly compatible with older Macs, they change the Mac boot process in fundamental (and incompatible) ways.

Call A.P.P.L.E. to post your Blog

Apple PugetSound Program Library Exchange (A.P.P.L.E.) is an online Apple user group offering worldwide membership. An all volunteer organization steered by Seattle-based Bill Martens with production facilities in Canada and Japan, the site provides blogging facilities in various categories related to all things Mac, as well as Apple II. It also publishes a monthly magazine in PDF format.

'Meetings' are held online on the first Thursday of each month from 6pm to 8pm PST. More...
