And the remote control device he used to change slides, while privately viewing speaker notes and a preview of the next slide, was his iPhone!
As well, Serge Tauber gave us a first-hand account of how easy and essential it was to take along his MacBook Pro
on a driving holiday through France, mostly tapping into free or low-cost wireless broadband as he moved from provence to provence. Apart from the convenience of email and local web browsing, he was able to 'phone home' free, courtesy of Skype!
Colin put the new Safari Beta through its paces. Then Ken Driver revisited the AMUG web site with an update on the meetings datepad and its link to our published iCal calendar, some additions to the Links page, member discounts after login and ordering Disc-of-the-Month online.
Colin gave us a demo of two new features in iPhoto '09 for tagging, organising and searching images by category – 'Places' and 'Faces'. We also looked at Google™ Maps Street View. Main raffle prize was a copy of Adobe's new 'Classroom in a Book: Illustrator CS4', courtesy of Peachpit Press.
We celebrated 30 years since the club's formation in 1978 (see Our History) with guest presenter Nicholas Pyers (nicholaspyers.com) delivering an excellent and thoroughly researched presentation covering "30 years of Apple and AUG Sydney". Some past committee members joined us and, being our 'Christmas' meeting, we enjoyed a sumptuous spread in the break. Main raffle prize was an 8GB iPod nano (RED)™ valued at $199, won by Roger Hardy.
