The cartoon strips and some of the written material appearing on this website was originally produced for 'Miaow', the quarterly newsletter of the Mensa CatSIG, their Special Interest Group devoted to all things feline. The photographs were mostly taken by me or my husband, with the odd one here and there having been taken by other family members. The animated 'Felix' cartoons I've inserted are freely available on the internet and the introductory 'miaows' on the Home page are a free track I found ages ago, either on a CD that came with a computer magazine or on the internet.
All the cats featured in the cartoons are, or have been, pets of mine and their 'friends', with the exception of ChairMog, who is an amalgam of various of the archetypal 'cute', person friendly sort of Black and White moggy of which I have known several. The name of the site comes from how we have sometimes signed our letters and cards to friends and family - "From Sybil and Barry and the Mad Moggies" - since we acquired our first three kittens back in 1981. On a personal note, I came to computers relatively late, jumping in at the deep end with an AppleMac in the summer of 2000, never having used a computer before in my life. I am told I have taken to it like a duck to water! Having worked for many years as a Graphic Designer, involved in the production of newsletters, magazines and catalogues amongst other things (though without the benefit of computers, my then employer not being keen on introducing them!), it seemed a natural progression to have a go at building a website. I'm enjoying working on it and hope that it gives you as much pleasure as it is giving me!
Technical StuffThe site has been tested in recent versions of the most popular browsers and the pages have been designed so that they can be viewed on monitors set to a screen resolution of 800x600 or higher. As they have only been tested on the Apple Mac system, if you have any problems with any of these pages, please do e-mail me to let me know. I'm intending to bring in some features which won't be compatible with a number of older browsers, so now's the time to update to the latest version! If you fancy a change of browser, I would recommend Firefox. You can find downloads for Windows, Mac and Linux in a selection of languages here (the page has a link at the bottom for other systems). If you are still using Mac OS9, Netscape 7, the last version available for OS9 and earlier, will work fine (look for PowerMac on the download page and choose the latest version for your country).
Cookies: These are used by Webstat to collect some data about visitors to this site. As I'm using the free service, all that's recorded is the country (of the ISP you are connected through), computer operating system and browser, the search engine the site has been reached through (if applicable), your IP address (on day of visit only) and pages visited, and there is no way to see which visitor has visited which pages. The cookies just indicate that you have visited this site before. If you do not have cookies enabled then you will almost always be recorded as a new visitor. If you wish to know more, click on the counter at the bottom of any page.
