Chemical Sciences and Health Consultation
Deadline for responses: 21 June 2009
Health is an issue of global importance and a high priority on the scientific agenda. Chemical science is an essential element in bringing about developments in health care at the interface with biology, medicine and physics. These advances span the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions, for example, in the development of new drugs, drug delivery systems and diagnostic tools.
The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) is holding a consultation on the integration of the chemical sciences and medical research. This consultation focuses on areas such as education and training, funding mechanisms and problems of multidisciplinary and translational research.
The aim of this consultation is to collate the views of stakeholders in chemical science and healthcare to establish recommendations that will improve the interaction between the chemical sciences with medical research. These recommendations will identify changes to bring about improvements in health care and enhance the competitiveness of the UK in this sector.
We would like to hear from a wide range of individuals and organisations, including clinicians, researchers from industry and academia, policy-makers, regulators, medical research charities and patient advocacy groups.
The consultation document consists of a number of questions. Please address as many of these as you wish. Your responses will be carefully considered and used to produce a set of policy recommendations later this year.
