Fun with Hybridizing
For year round fun, try making babies, the daylily way! There is always a new thrill to look forward to! There is the fun of pollinating the stigma itself, seeing if there is fertility, the pod swelling as the weeks go by. Then there is the harvesting and labelling of pods, chilling the firm, shiny black seeds until you are ready to plant. Then the miracle of birth, germination. After planting out in the late spring, the excitement mounts for a year or so until....Ecstasy!
Seriously, once you have a few years of seedlings in the garden, there will be new bloom every year to look forward to. Labelling seedling crosses can be a challenge. Using Paint Markers on recycled mini-blinds is one possibility. But, in Maine, frost heaves and spring clean-up can move tags around. Making a seedling map can be a saving grace! Brother P_touch labellers are used by some, on mini- blinds or on pieces of plumbers pipe cut into sections. Use your imagination!

RINGS & THINGS below
Daylily clubs offer a place to share our passion with others. We will make new friends. We will share plants, wisdom and fun. We take part and promote the Hemerocallis Genus
During the winter, we can enjoy time together, sharing slides and info on the best daylilies for northern gardens. We can learn what daylilies might rebloom, which ones are early and late blooming. Come join the fun!
