southern californian weekend





last weekend was a busy one filled with great adventures. it was that time of the year when brent's group of high school friends get together for some food, some catching up, play for all ages and definitely a lot of laughs. it was a five hour drive to mickey and linda's house on friday night and five hour drive back home on sunday afternoon. it was really tough and i was no help. brent drove the whole way, but i'm sure i'm not just speaking for myself when i say that it's worth it.
we kicked off saturday morning with chocolate chip waffles. a real special treat since i heard linda does not cook. then we were off to john wayne airport for some aerobatics. it was awesome! kailea's only complaint, "how come i don't get to go?" her pouting disappeared when she saw a pool filled with kids at beth and ron's house. she quickly put on her bathing suit and got in the water. no surprise there.
sunday was a beach day. my favorite part was all three of us in a two man kayak, not just because we were kayaking to the restaurant for brunch. but because it was a great quality family time despite a couple of things- kailea scraping my shins everytime she paddles or brent splashing cold water on my back. it wouldn't be a beach day if i didn't make my signature sand fish with kailea. it got cold and windy late in the afternoon, but hey, beach day, hot or cold is always a blast.
