party of five

kailea's birthday party was a blast. she had asked if we can go to hawaii for her birthday. sadly, we can't- so she asked if she can have a birthday party. no, we are not one to invite the whole pre-school class. she hand picked four friends and had a hawaiian themed birthday party. there were crafts and a lot of play. a lot of play led to hungry kids. full kids led to a lot of energy, so we took the party outdoors for games of pineapple bowling with coconuts, flamingo ring toss and hula hoop races. and what is a birthday without the cake? i baked kailea a chocolate cake with white frosting and a hibiscus flower design. pink of course. i'm not a baker but i had made it a tradition for me to bake her birthday cake. i have five birthday cakes under my belt to boast. my only worry is after watching food network's wedding cake challenge, she had asked me to bake her wedding cake with fondant and sugar flowers and all the fancy stuff.....i think i still have about 25 years to practice.
every party ends. and that was very hard. all the kids didn't want to leave. that's one true test of a successful party.
'let's do it again', kailea said after the party.
