THE LAURA SWEATER

Designed by Marielle Henault

The Laura Sweater is a super-soft cafŽ sweater with an oversized ribbed turtleneck and extra-long sleeves for those cold, rainy days when you just want to curl up in a comfy chair with a coffee and a book.  Pattern is written for a womanÕs size small – additional sizes to come.

STITCH DEFINITIONS

-k2tog = knit two together

-kfb = knit front and back – knit into the front of the next stitch, and, without dropping that stitch

off of the needle, knit into the back of the same stitch

-pm = place marker

-po = pick up

-ssk = slip, slip, knit – slip the next two stitches on your left needle knit-wise, insert your left needle into the front of the two slipped stitches, and knit them together through the back loops with the right needle

INSTRUCTIONS

The Laura sweater is worked top-down in one piece, with virtually no seaming!  It is recommended that you try the sweater on as you knit, and adjust as needed for your body type.

NECK

-Using the circular needles, cast on 96 stitches using your preferred method.  Join in the round, marking the beginning of your row with the stitch marker that is a different color from the rest.

-First row:  *(k2, p2);  repeat from * to the end of the row.

-Continue this ribbed stitch pattern for 12Ó.

BODY

-Slip 1 stitch, pm; slip 8, pm; slip 40, pm; slip 8, pm; slip 40, pm (you will pass your original row marker here – thatÕs okay).

-Row 1:  *(k to one stitch before a like-colored marker, kfb, pass marker, kfb);  repeat from * 4x;  knit to end of row.

-Row 2:  Knit all stitches

-Repeat rows 1 & 2 for 32 total rows.

-Next round:  Knit to the first marker and place the next 40 stitches on a piece of scrap yarn.  Remove the two stitch markers that used to be on either side of these 40 stitches.  Knit the next stitch, creating the underarm of the sweater.  Continue knitting to the next marker.  Place the next 40 stitches on a piece of scrap yarn and again remove the two stitch markers that sandwiched them.  Knit the next stitch, creating the second underarm.  Knit to the end of the row.

-Knit stockinette for 12Ó.

-Next row: *(k2, p2);  repeat from * to the end of the row.

-Continue this ribbed stitch pattern for 3Ó.

-Bind off.

SLEEVES

-Take the 40 stitches you first placed on scrap yarn and divide it equally among 4 dpns.

-Starting at the underarm, po 2 stitches with the 5th dpn – and mark the second as the beginning of your row (right in the middle of the underarm).  Knit the remainder of the stitches in the row.  (42 stitches)

-Knit stockinette for 1Ó.

-Next row: *(k2, p2);  repeat from * to the end of the row.

-Continue this ribbed stitch pattern for 7.5Ó.

-Bind off.
