All are available in one of four colors, white, various color combinations or in multi-color designs. Our products are available in monoimage configurations - a single repeated impression, or in universal message configurations - each impression of a different spiritual tradition. The uses of Dharma Banners are innumerable. Just a few suggestions. Typically in Himalayan countries they are flown from poles on the outside of homes, monasteries, public buildings and along pilgrimage routes and sacred sites (which might be almost anywhere and everywhere.) They are tied to the upper branches of trees and between trees. Horizontal banners might be draped from the ceiling, under the eaves or over the doors or windows of houses, along rafters and ridge poles. They are beautiful coverings for altars, tables and bureaus. Both indoors and outside, the possibilities are endless.
Dharma Banners was conceived in the Spring of 1998 when Michael Attie, the owner and founder, visited Katmandu. In the Tibetan neighborhoods, Michael became fascinated with the prayer flags that were flying everywhere. He spent his days wandering around looking at and taking pictures of them. He was increasingly dumbfounded with the quandary: they are so beautiful, why aren't there also prayer flags flying everywhere in the Western Countries. In the midst of this frenzy, he sat down and wrote a poem. Click here to read an Ode to the Banners

POLES
For the vertical Banner Poles -- tall bamboo or large "closet rods" will do fine in all but the most cyclone-like conditions. For a more substantial pole, try your local lumber yard or woods. If none are available, the Geronimo Pole Co. will ship a peeled 2-4 inch diameter Douglas Fir pole anywhere in the USA.

Throughout the Himalayas, the prayer flag is a symbol of impermanence. When left outside they eventually fade and tatter. They are often left hanging in this condition to remind us that such is our fate as well. Perhaps to emphasize this teaching, Himalayan flags are usually made of quite flimsy material. While our all-cotton flags are of a sturdier weave than most Himalayan flags, we must add a disclaimer that, when they are hung outside, they will eventually go the way of all things: to the wind and weather.
