A quick biography
Shaun Treweek, Researcher
PhD Bioengineering, University of Strathclyde, UK, 1994; BSc Applied Physics, Brunel University, UK, 1990.
Shaun has two jobs, one as a senior lecturer in the University of Dundee's Clinical & Population Sciences and Education Division, the other as Assistant Director of the Tayside Clinical Trials Unit. In both jobs he is interested in how to design trials that are more relevant to those expected to use the results.
He is looking at ways of improving trial design so that it is easier to apply their results to clinical practice and in developing tools to help trialists design and manage trials. He is a coauthor of the CONSORT extension for pragmatic trials and lead author of a Trials review looking at the link between design and applicability. Trial recruitment is a particular interest and Shaun is the lead author of the Cochrane review on strategies to improve trial recruitment and, additionally, is involved in developing software to support recruitment to primary care trials. He is also leading a project to develop software to support the evaluation of complex interventions prior to a full-scale trial. He has been part of the coordination team for four EC framework projects, covering between them trial methodology, quality improvement and evidence-informed health policy. He currently leads an EC FP7 project that aims to improve the way research evidence is presented in guidelines.
Before moving to the University of Dundee, Shaun spent six years in Oslo at the Norwegian Knowledge Centre for the Health Services working on trial methodology, particularly that linked to pragmatic trials and discovering new and interesting ways to serve fish.
