Free comics can make you so tired
Free comic book day 2008 is in the history books and it was a great success. Hundreds and hundreds of people of all ages came in and thousands of comics went out. Thanks to Saint David's church on Brunswick for letting us make use of their hall and big thanks to the Strange Adventures staff and volunteers who helped make the day so much fun. We had folks in costumes, Mister J making balloon hats, a troop of amazingly talented local cartoonists and I hope a good time was had by all.The Chronicle Herald ran a story about the event and some photos are here and on our facebook page.

Here's an update from Fredericton's Strangely Adenturous manager, Derek Nichols:

While the flood waters didn't get closer than a block to the store, we've had water in our basement (rising water table) and no power since Thursday noonish. Flood waters are going down and power will return probably Monday.
But we didn't give up that easily! The day was spent out on the sidewalk giving away a comic to the passersby and making sure they knew the real event would be on May 10th!
It wasn't super busy today downtown - after Thursday and the throngs of Flood Tourists - people have heeded the advice to just stay away from downtown. With power off to over half of downtown, and all major parking lots flooded, there wasn't a lot of reason to come down. We did though get comics (DC Universe 0 and Marvel Adventures Iron Man) into peoples' hands who were around, and look forward to the real FCBD on May 10th, as do the customers!

Iron Man was the big movie this weekend and to learn more about the armour he wears, cartoonist Chip Zdarsky made a cool Iron Man guide for the Post newspaper.

It's Thursday evening and the Fredericton shop had to close due to the flooding of downtown Fredericton and NB Power had to shut off the power. Whether we're open tomorrow depends on the Emergency Measures Organization and the city. If the floodwaters continue to rise, many downtown stores will likely remain closed. Free Comic Book Day in our Fredericton store will hopefully happen as scheduled on Saturday, May 3rd; but depending on the flood situation, we may reschedule to the following Saturday. Call 450-3759 for updates or check back here.

For those of you on dry land, you can see some photos of downtown Fredericton here and check the webcam that shows City Hall which is across the street from us.

Almost May means almost Free Comic Book Day!
Saturday, May 3rd is almost upon us. Free Comic Book Day! Both Strange Adventures locations are ready
to hand out thousands of comics and you, our fine customers and friends, can do us a big favour by mentioning FCBD to you friends and co-workers! The more folks who try comics, the more folks will read them and keep this industry and medium healthy and growing.

Some nifty links:
• Shaw cable's Calgary reporter Steve Kelly did a great piece on Calgary's comic book hotspot, Redd Skull. CHeck the video here. Owner Kelly Dowd is a great guy. I usually hang out with him at retailer meetings or conventions. If you get to Calgary, look up Redd Skull Comics!

• I was at the 3rd annual New York Comi-con that ran from April 18 to the 20th. It's a great show and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to get to a major comic book show. All the major and many smaller publishers are there along with loads of comic creators. I hung out with former Strange Adventurer, Sean Jordan and our photos can be seen here.

• The shop has a spiffy facebook group! Thanks to Emily Dubois for getting the ball rolling!

Okay, so you know about Free COmic Book Day, I've passed along a couple of links, I still have to update the "new stuf
