FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS
1. What
should I do if I want to sell a collection of toys, comics, books,
etc.?
Strange Adventures
is always happy to look at collections you are interested in selling.
We also do estate appraisals, and other large-scale appraisals for
which you need us to come to you, for a minimal cost. If you are
interested in selling a collection, please bring it in to your neighborhood
Strange Adventures location on any weekday. The owner or manager
will be happy to look over what you have to sell; if they are away
we can keep your stuff safely in our back room until they return
to have a look at what you have brought.
Some important
things to remember about selling collections to us:
- We do NOT
give appraisals over the phone. You can call to set up a time
to bring materials in for us to see, but please do not call expecting
us to offer you a price for what you are selling. You wouldn't
buy a car without seeing it first, and the same goes for us with
comics and other merchandise. The condition of what you are selling,
our stock at the time, and many other factors go into the prices
we are willing to offer for collections, so we have to actually
see what you want to sell before we decide if we wish to purchase
it.
- Try to have
your collection organized before bringing it in. If your comic
issues are in numerical order, and if each of your toys is packaged
with its accessories, it will be much easier for us to quickly
look through what you have brought in.
- Consider
whether you would rather have cash or store credit in return for
what you wish to sell; usually, we will give more in credit than
in cash.
2. Are you
hiring?
At the moment,
Strange Adventures is not looking for any new employees. We do keep
resumes on file, however, so please feel free to drop one off with
us. We consult this file whenever we do any hiring.
3. I want
to sell my own comics...where do I start?
If you are
interested in selling your work through Strange Adventures, either
mail a copy of your book to the shop or bring one in for us to take
a look at. We are happy to carry any books or 'zines, as long as
they do not have extremely offensive material in them. Let us know
if you would like to arrange a pay-as-they-sell payment scheme,
or if you would rather have us buy the books from you up front,
and we will work out a payment system with you.
At the moment,
we have several shelves devoted to locally made books and 'zines,
and we are always glad to have more. Several employees and friends
of Strange Adventures make their own comics, and are always happy
to offer support and advice to people who are new to making independent
comics.
4. How do
I start an account?
If you are
planning to collect every issue of a current series, or are planning
on buying some other kind of regular production such as a series
of toys or DVDs, then holding an account with us is a great way
to ensure that you get everything you need. When you start an account
(which, by the way, is free) we get some contact information from
you and a list of the titles you want to pick up, then assign you
an account number. Whenever anything for those titles comes in,
we put copies in your account bag, behind the counter, until you
come by to pick them up. All we ask is that you come in periodically
(more or less frequently depending on how many books you have on
order and how often they are published) to clean out your bag; as
we have limited storage space, we will be forced to close your account
if you fail to come in.
Occasionally,
we will put things in your bag that you have not specifically requested;
these may include free books, books by writers or artists that you
have expressed interest in, or spin-off titles that we think you
may want to check out. You are not obliged to pick any of these
books up; we simply want to let you know about them in case you
might be interested. You can change the list of books you want to
pick up at any time, and get a 10% discount on anything that comes
in for your account!
We also offer
mail-order accounts for anyone who does not live near a comic book
store. Accounts always get filled before new books go on the shelves,
so you will never have to worry about missing out on that hot title
that you want to get but that always seems to sell out quickly!
