| The WEMA Legislative Forum is an excellent opportunity to extend a special invitation to Board Members, Administrators and your Wisconsin Legislators to share information on the importance of quality school library programs. The forum will be held on Tuesday April 20th in the Monona Terrace Ballroom. Breakfast will be served before the Forum from 7-7:45. The forum will begin at 7:45 with a few words from Elizabeth (Libby) Burmaster, State Superintendent of Schools. Short presentations will include: How Quality School Library Programs Prepare Students for Future Employment by Calvin Potter, former legislator and Assistant State Superintendent; Libraries Make a Difference in Student Achievement by Nancy Zimmerman, past president of AASL; Stories From the Field by Kathy Boguszewski, director of Information and Technology at Janesville School District. Following the main topics we will gather together by legislative districts at common tables for an opportunity to speak with, learn from and discuss school library issues with our district legislators. Please invite your administration and board members. They can attend at no cost. Please register them on the conference registration form by checking the check box for Legislative Forum and indicating the number of guests. If you have registered already and did not register your guests for the Legislative Forum please send an e-mail to Courtney Rounds at wema@centurytel.net and indicate how many are attending. Please contact your legislators personally to invite them to this special event. Currently, there is important legislation that affects information and technology literacy programs in Wisconsin Schools. This is a special chance to have a common dialog about how this legislation impacts successful schools. Contact information for your legislators can be found at http://www.legis.state.wi.us/waml/ Make a personal contact today by e-mail or phone. You can make a difference! Spread the word and promote student achievement by keeping our school library and technology programs strong! |
