The conference Keynote Speaker will be Dr. Gary Hartzell. Dr. Hartzell’s keynote speech is titled “Building Influence for the School Librarian.” He will also be leading a workshop on the topic of building influence that will expand upon the ideas presented in his speech.

Dr. Hartzell, a former principal, is Professor of Educational Administration at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where he teaches in the master's and doctoral degree programs. He is the author of the book Building Influence for the School Librarian and has written numerous articles on school administration practices, school libraries and workplace relationships. His newest books Invisible to Indispensable: Rethinking the Library Media Specialist-School Principal Relationship and A Principal Resource: Using the School Library Media Center to Improve Administrative Performance will be available in early 2004.

He is an internationally known speaker on librarian-principal relationships and was a featured presenter at the White House Conference on School Libraries hosted by First Lady Laura Bush.
