During the 2002-2003 school year, the School District of Waukesha invested in wireless notebook computers at all elementary schools and many of our secondary schools. Preparing Existing Technology Coordinators for the New PI-34 District Instructional Technology Coordinator License - Steven P. Lanphear, Office of Education Outreach/UW Madison (Rm. I)

Under a DPI approved Experimental and Innovative Program, UW-Madison has developed a workshop series to update the background of existing technology coordinators to include educational administration training for this new PI-34 administrative license. At the heart of this program, participants prepare artifacts for a historical portfolio aligned to the DPI competencies for this license. The first Cadre met during the summer of 2003 and continue to develop their licensure portfolios. Evaluation will take place this winter. A second cadre will begin in Oct/Nov. 2003, and a third cadre is planned for the summer 2004. A Blog continues the collaboration started during the workshop series. [DP, I]

 Creating a Flexible Access School Library Media Program - Nancy Zimmerman, University of South Carolina (Rm. J.)

Research and Information Power emphasize two program elements to meet the information needs of students - collaborative planning and flexible access, or access to the library and its resources at point of instructional need. But many SLMSs are forced to run programs in fixed schedule facilities. What exactly can a SLMS do to create a flexible access school library media program in such a situation? What can those in flexible access programs (or not) do to demonstrate the benefits of flexible access for students and teachers? Join AASL President, Nancy Zimmerman, in a discussion of strategies for implementing a flexible access program and for winning over administrators, teachers, and parents.
