The CCBC: 1) provides a collection of current, retrospective and historical books for children and young adults; 2) provides Wisconsin librarians, teachers, students and others with informational and educational services based on the collection; 3) supports teaching, learning and research needs related to children's and young adult literature.

The CCBC is funded for these purposes by the UW-Madison through the School of Education and by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction/Division for Libraries, Technology, and Community Learning.
