SPECIAL NOTE: Microsoft recently stopped supporting "Netscape-style" plugins in the Windows version of Internet Explorer 5.5. That may mean that your browser will not properly play the music I have on this page. If that's the case, I'm afraid I have only one suggestion for you -- get a Macintosh (or at least get Netscape). Apple has provided information on how to convert this page to use an ActiveX control...but I will NOT use a Microsoft-only technology here. So... Live Long and Prosper!

In May of 2001, the fourth series in the Star Trek franchise reached
its end. Critics haven't been particularly kind to Star Trek Voyager,
which I don't think is entirely fair. Part of their distaste seemed
to focus on one of the aspects of the show that I found to be one of
its biggest assets -- a female captain. Perhaps I'm a bit biased, as
I've been a fan of Kate Mulgrew's since before she took the role, but
I for one think she did a fine job. In any case, I'm once again
without a Star Trek program to watch faithfully until the scheduled
Fall 2001 debut of Enterprise, starring Scott Bakula (I'm also a big
fan of his, having gotten great pleasure from Quantum Leap). In the
meantime, TV Guide has done it again -- they sold three separate
collector covers honoring Voyager as it drew to a close. I purchased
those for my collection along with the prior four-captain set.
OK, it's time. TV Guide has just placed Scott Bakula on its cover --
in uniform and ready to go where no man has gone before. I'm ready for Enterprise.
Are you?
It's September of 2003, and Enterprise has taken a beating from critics and fans
alike for its first two seasons. I admit that it has not been all I hoped, but I like
it anyway -- if it's Trek, I'll watch. But in response, they've decided to introduce a
new element: a threat to Earth from the Xindi. Early indications are that it's going to
make a significant change in the show, perhaps for the better. Either way, I'm going
to watch it as a faithful fan.
OK, so now it's February of 2004, and Enterprise has been renamed to include "Star Trek" in its title (suits me just fine, thank you). I think the critics are a bit happier with the changes that have been made. I think I like them, too. As I've said before, I'll watch anyway, but it's still nice to see improvements whenever they come.
