The Castle Arms, Mey

After a long day touring the Orkneys, Ruth and I pulled into the Castle Arms. At first, after getting a price of 58 pounds for the room, I was going to try somewhere else. But the proprietor, took 8 pounds off the price and I decided that would be enough. Still higher than I wanted to pay, but it was late and who knew what was up the road. The point of telling you this is that after spending the night, we realized that even at the first price, the room was a bargain. (Later on, after getting used to the exchange rate, I realized that I probably converted the rate improperly and thought it was higher than it really was.) We had an excellent dinner and then retired to the lounge to have a few beers. The locals (as well as the staff) were very friendly. We like chatting with the locals and finding out more about the area. We weren't disappointed here. We even had a drink bought for us by a fellow that turned out to be the breakfast cook. If only we found this place before staying at that terrible hotel in Jon O'Groats.......
