Quicksilver II

Because of the Radiator Position in the case, the watercooler was just recirculating the warm air. By moving the radiator to the bottom of the case, fresh cold air is drawn in through the rad then expelled out of the front by the extractor. The pipe work needed extending and joining with aluminium tube. This involved draining the system & refilling - not a lot of fun. This had to be done using an oral syringe! The pipe work still needs a bit of a tidy but the system is now cold inside when the door is opened.

Thermaltake Graphics Cooler

This works in conjunction with the processor watercooler to cool the overall system. It is intended to fit in 2 pci slots but will not fit in the G4 cases using the conventional method. However it fits a treat by removing the Quicksilver 120mm fan so that air is drawn in from the holes on the side of the case and blown out of the back of the case. At slow speed (there are 2 speed settings) the graphics chip maxes at around 50 degrees when playing Doom 3. Used to be around 79 degrees. It is also virtually silent on slow speed.

QuicksilverIII

I have continued to modify this Quicksilver and upgrade the cooling system. It is now fitted with a Giga Dual 1.8 currently overclocked and running at 1.87GHz. I have not yet worked out the jumper sequence for 1.93GHz.I fitted Dual G5 cooling fans (the 80 x 35mm cd compartment type). These are virtually silent but shift large amounts of air keeping the case super cool!

If you are going to cut holes in the top of your precious Mac, it pays to have the right tools:

Photograph 1. Below : Q-Max Sheet Metal Cutter

These are available in different sizes. This one is 78mm diameter, ideal for punching through metal!

Photograph 2. Below : Starrett Hole Cutter

These are also available in a plethora of different sizes. This one is 73mm & is the one I used on the plastic G4 top.

The plastic hole can be cleaned with fine sand paper, followed by flour paper & finished off with Brasso. This gives a professional polished finish

The Apple Fan Grills I designed are now machined & installed. They are made of Solid 3mm Thick Stainless Steel! See Below
