| Aikido of Noe Valley
|
| 1987 - Present |
| Developed a successful Aikido dojo in San Francisco, CA. While Dojo Cho (Chief Instructor) of the Day Division - and later the entire school - I began kids' community Aikido programs, traveled great distances (USSR, Mexico, Alaska, Hawai'i) to share Aikido's practice and message, and taught special interest groups--for instance, art students from the San Francisco Art Institute. I visited Japan to study at both Hombu & Shingu Dojos. I also made pilgrimages to Iwama Dojo and O'Sensei's grave site in Tanabe, Japan. Moreover, while a teacher at Aikido of Noe Valley, I have offered many hours of private instruction. |

In addition to extensive martial arts training and experience, I also hold a PhD in clinical psychology from The California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, with BA degrees in philosophy from Santa Clara University and in psychology from the University of San Francisco. My Masters Degree is in existential-phenomenological psychology from Duquesne University in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. In graduate school, I also studied world religions and religious practices, including Taoist Chi Gung breathing exercises. After graduate school, I practiced Zen Buddhism at two different Zendos, worked on several psychiatric units, developed a private practice in Gestalt therapy (in which I am also trained), and was a staff psychologist at San Quentin State prison. Most recently, I became certified as a massage therapist, having learned Shiatsu, Swedish, trigger point, and deep tissue massage. I also passed the first two levels of Reiki. Currently, at the Acupressure Institute of Berkeley, I am studying Tui Na, a massage form based on Traditional Chinese Medicine. While teaching Aikido techniques and principles, I attempt to incorporate my extensive educational and experiential background. |
