PICKUP 6's REPERTOIRE
Pickup 6's repertoire is an eclectic mix; rarely what you would expect, but usually either something you recognize or will catch onto quickly. On the other hand, our repertoire is growing faster than... well a lot faster than it would be if our arrangers (and most of our pieces are arranged by members of the group) were spending as much time as they should on the rest of their lives.
Currently, our repertoire includes:

- "Blackbird"
- "Cool" - the West Side Story classic, eerily, like bottled tension. Some folks thought singing Bernstein a cappella was sacrilege... we just saw it as a challenge. Besides, we all need to break some rules in our lives. Boy, boy, crazy boy...
- "Crazy" - from the classic depths of a genre not often heard in a cappella, Patsy Cline's soulfull torch song.
- "Fever" - Originally taken to the top of the R&B charts by Little Willie John as a seductive wail about, well, gettin' hot, this tune was sweetened for the pop charts by Peggy Lee. Less sweet, more hot, we say!
- "I'm Beginning to See the Light" - a little Ellington to set the Mood
- "Laura" is only a dream.
- "Peel Me a Grape" - Beauty and the Bass; a seduction in six voices for all those who know how to get what they want.
- "Rhode Island is Famous for You" - the wit of Blossom Dearie on full display. Pencils come from Pennsylvania...
- "'Round Midnight" - The cool, haunting dissonances of T.S. Monk.
- "Route 66" - Pickup 6's signature song - come on a journey with us! (This recording live from the national Harmony Sweepstakes 1999.
- "Rubber Ducky," if nothing else, very, very cute and yellow.
- "Spiderman" the theme from the '70s animated series
- "You Never Give Me Your Money," complete with wailing guitar scat.
But more are on the way... The rest of the group told me not to give too much away, but look for tunes you may recognize from sources just about as diverse as those above, like a Louis Prima tune you may have seen recently and a Gershwin/Weill standard. Stay tuned.
