In Memoriam: Pickup 6...

1999 Harmony Sweepstakes Boston Regional Champions!

Pickup 6 - March, 1999
Harmony Sweepstakes - Boston The competition featured eight of the best a cappella groups in New England, and we are truly honored to have been selected from such a field from far and wide. We would like to thank all of the family and friends who came to hear and cheer us, and who supported us through all our hard work in preparation. In particular, we would like to thank Suzanne Paquette, Joel Schneider and Bob Stoloff for their invaluable help as we prepared.

The whole experience, performing at the national Harmony Sweepstakes was incredible. There was a lot of very high quality singing, and we definitely held our own among the pack, although we didn't place and didn't win anything. It was also thrilling just singing to such a huge crowd (the Marin Center had all 2000 seats sold out).

Since Sweeps, there have been some changes at Pickup 6. After the nationals, soprano Lisa Macalaster left to form her new group Class Act (look for them performing in the Boston Area!). NECHE director Cheryl Pongratz stepped in to sing soprano for mid-summer's Stellar A Cappella, and Pickup 6 is enormously grateful to her for that. Since Stellar, Alto and Bass Kirsten Findell and Adam Scoville have gone in various directions as well. Kirsten is reducing her committments in order to complete her PhD. The group has known for some time that transitions were coming, partly because Adam's has been planning for over a year to head to Denver for a clerkship after law school.

As a result, the group decided to call it a night. This site exists as a memorial to a group we all enjoyed, and which achieved some of our most ambitious goals along the way.
