We were looking for a short outing on this day so chose Tinkham Peak in the Snoqualmie Pass area. We drove to the PCT trailhead at Windy Pass and started hiking at 10:30 AM. The trail began in pretty wildflower meadows and then quickly moved into forest. After 2 miles, we arrived at an intersection with a side-trail that headed uphill. We followed this side-trail and soon arrived at the saddle between Tinkham and Silver Peaks. We then took the leftmost scramble path (east) towards Tinkham. The path was relatively easy to follow in the forest and kept just uphill of the Cedar River Watershed boundary, which was marked by placards. The path eventually popped out of the forest underneath the summit block and traversed some blocky ledges up to the summit. It was a clear sunny day and we had nice views, especially of Mount Rainier to the south. Steve took some pictures while I signed the summit register. We took a quick break and would have lingered longer, but gnats began to swarm all around us. We carefully descended the ledges and the steeper sections in the forest. We had not thought to bring trekking poles for the descent, but we found a couple of downed branches that worked just as well. We arrived back at the trailhead at 2:15 PM. Tinkham was a fun little scramble and a good workout for Steve's ankle and hip on this day.
