We were visiting with family on Orcas Island for a couple of days around the 4th of July and decided to hike up Mount Constitution. This was our first hike since Steve fractured his hip 10 weeks ago. We were part of a large hiking party consisting of Steve's parents, Mick and Genie, Steve's brother Brian and his wife Joane, Steve's sister Jill, his cousin Cara, and his Uncle Tim, an island local. We started at the Cascade Lake trailhead and hiked up the well-maintained, easy trail. We took a very leisurely pace, stopping for a snack and exploring part of a small cave along the way. At the summit, we went to the top of the stone tower and took in some beautiful views. The elevation gain was 2027' and the distance was 4.3 miles. It felt great to be out hiking again.
Gear: Trekking poles (for Steve). For the cave, a headlamp would be nice.
