I found an interesting article at flexbeta.net that compares the five most popular spyware removal tools. If you read between the lines, Ad-aware does the best job, and they absolutely hated one of the non-free versions.

Some of the anti-virus companies are coming out with their own spyware removal tools. I have gone back to using only Ad-aware. I used to also use Spybot S&D, but I dropped it a few weeks ago.
