Helen Eddy began day*star, her card and gift manufacturing company, in 1980 to market her artwork, and within a few years found her affinity for photography. She began making her photographs into cards, magnets, and bookmarks, and other products, selling to stores and shops throughout New England and now makes her work available as prints.

Helen has now imaged much of New England and is always giving her camera more to do -- a 1990 honeymoon in England, followed by business trips to Italy (1996) and France (2001), as well as trips to Long Island, New York (1999, 2000, and 2001), Elsah, Illinois (1998), and Baja California, Mexico (2000), have all been inspiring to her shutter.

"Part of my being..."

Light is of primary importance to photography; Helen Eddy (whose first name means "light") here presents light to us in its virtues of beauty and truth.  She finds these virtues in love; that Helen loves Boston and that she loves flowers is evident in these images.  We may physically see richness and color, but the real element is known by spiritual illumination: love.

"I have photocards of your town..."

A little over fifteen years ago, Helen Eddy introduced a line of photo greeting cards at the Boston Gift Show, a semi-annual trade show where she had been exhibiting her graphic artwork on cards for some time.  The photo line took off, and day*star, her card and gift manufacturing business, is now known for its images of Boston.

Seeing beauty in other places as well, Helen found a niche in photographing New England towns and going back to have gift stores in those towns carry her products.  She now has photographed over two hundred towns in New England, and has ranged as far as Italy and England.

Some images from Helen's camera are now licensed nationally through Kristin Elliott, Inc., a card company based in Newburyport.  Larger pieces are on display at the Commonwealth Museum in Dorchester (next to the JFK library).  And Helen's first piece of public art can be seen on the fifth level of a new garage at Logan Airport -- it's an image of Boston’s Paul Revere Statue.

"It's not the camera; it's the eye..."

Helen Eddy grew up in Enfield, Connecticut, and graduated with a degree in fine arts from Principia College, a liberal arts school near St. Louis, Missouri.  Before developing her line of photocards, Helen exercised her photographer's eye for ten years at the Newton Camera Club, winning awards there and serving for a couple of years as its president.

Though much interest in her work comes from her cards and gifts being available in stores -- and also used as corporate greetings and wedding invitations, favors and thank-you notes -- Helen is pleased to be showing her photography in gallery settings.

David Stafford has, within the time of his forteen-year marriage to Helen, worked his way up the company ladder to simultaneously hold the positions of Chief Financial Officer, Assistant for Marketing, and Manager of Information Technology.
David has so enjoyed the process of building and growing this web site, he now has his own internet consulting business, sometimes building websites, sometimes acting as a liaison between people and their computers.

He and Helen live in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in their recently-renovated condo in Harvard Square.
