A storm brews in the distance. A young boy sees it but pays no attention to the darkening skies. When the rain begins to fall, he retires to the safety of his home. Complacent about his situation, the boy finds himself lost in his own thoughts as the world stirs around him. Not until the tempest is at his very doorstep does he take action. At that point, it is too late. Trapped within a sinking house, the boy searches for hope in a moment when all hope is lost.
Red Sky Morning is an animated horror film that took over four years to animate and photograph. The film was animated on celluloid with wax pencils and cell vinyl, then photographed on a 35mm oxbury camera at the University of Southern California, Division of Animation and Digital Arts. Originally conceived in 1999 the film slowly evolved into the piece that it is today thanks to the support of many people within and outside of the USC animation department. During the course of making this film, numerous digital tools became available for animation. However, it was decided at an early stage in the production to limit the project to analog technology.
