Libra 2.1.3

October 26, 2006

Now as a Universal Binary on Mac OS X!

Libra is a very simple application that allows you to create, use and manage multiple iTunes music libraries. Normally, iTunes has only one library. You create playlists within this unique library and you can have one iPod attached to this library. However, there are many uses for multiple libraries:

  • Have music on one or more external drives.
  • Use multiple iPods with the same computer account.
  • Put music in separate libraries for different purposes.
  • Let multiple users have their own library when they share a computer account.

  • iTunes 4, 5, 6 or 7

Purchase

Libra 2 is shareware. Because of the amount of time and effort I have to put in to program and support Libra, I ask for a hopefully reasonable fee of $10.

Click the PayPal button below to purchase a registration code. You will be transported to the PayPal web site where you can make the transaction. Once completed, you will receive an email with your registration information. Please be patient as I do this manually. However I generally send out registrations within 24 hours.

Features

  • Allows to create new libraries.
  • Allows to rename and delete libraries.
  • Automatically quits and relaunch iTunes when switching library.
  • Localized in english, french and german. More languages to come.
  • Improved Improved reliability when switching library. In essence, the various operations required to change library are monitored step by step and if any one of them fails, the entire operation is rewinded back to how things were before.
  • New Each library now has its own set of iTunes preferences. Among other things, this makes it possible to have different libraries located in different places, on the local disk or remote volumes.
  • New In addition to running on Mac OS X, Libra 2 also runs on Windows.
  • New Implemented notification of updates, at launch or manually.
  • New New Import command. This command lets you create a library from an existing folder of music files.
  • New New Get Info command.
  • New New Reveal in Finder command.
  • Improved Updated look.

Recent Changes

Known Issues

  • On Windows and only for some users, Libra gives a message "Music folder not found." Libra looks up the location of this folder in the Windows registry. If you know your way around the registry using Regedit, Libra looks for a "My Music" entry under the key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders". If it's not there, you can create it. Better yet, try to find what other key Microsoft is using to designate the location of your music folder and let me know so I can make Libra behave!
