Thunderbirds

The Thunderbirds is one of the creations of Gerry Anderson, most famous in the US for the series Space 1999. The series presents the adventures of Rescue International, an anonymous organization founded by ex-astronaut Jeff Tracy. The stories are fairly sophisticated, the good guys are good, the bad guys are bad - all elements difficult to find in kids programming today.

Rumor has it that a Thunderbirds movie is in production, and the Thunderbirds are showing Regularly on Cartoon Network in the UK. It seems they are making a comeback. The entire Thunderbirds series is now available on DVD.

The Thunderbirds copyright is currently owned by Carlton Entertainment in the UK.

Thunderbird 1 is part plane, mostly rocket. It is usually the first vehicle on the scene. Pilot Scott Tracy assesses the situation and coordinates rescue activies.

Thunderbird 2 is the heavy lift ship of International Rescue. It has several ready-to-fly cargo modules containing specialized rescue equipment.

Thunderbird 3 is all rocket. It shuttles people to Thunderbird 5, and carries out the occasional space-based rescue.

Thunderbird 4 is the underwater arm of International Rescue. It is usually ferried to the disaster scene by Thunderbird 2.

Thunderbird 5, orbiting outpost and Thunderbird communication center. Thunderbird 5 is continuously manned to listen for distress calls.
