Flying

I've always had a fondness for flying. I got my private pilot's license in '88. I did most of my time in a Cessna 152. I'm not flying right now because its one of those things that you should either dive into whole-hog, or stay away from completely.

I did most of my early training at San Marcos airport when it was privately operated. Since then, its become municipal and the layout has changed quite a bit. The little FBO building which had zillions of the traditional "solo shingles" on the wall, and where I soloed, is no longer there.

After I had some hours, we switched to Robert Mueler airport in Austin, flying out of the hangars on the east side. It was good practice to get in and out of an airport with a tower on a regular basis. Though some of the buildings are still standing, this airport is now closed and Bergstrom Air Force Base is now Austin Bergstrom Municipal Airport.

Though I'm usually a shutterbug, for some reason I didn't take any pictures of my flying escapades - which I regret. If you're learning to fly, be sure to take some pictures along the way. Its a hoot, and a time you'll always want to look back on.
