Living Dynamically in This Moment

I was telling my close friend about the report from my latest medical tests. As I related the findings of blood tests and the ultrasound reading I could see the emotional change of his facial expression. I saw him become sad and when I finished he said, "That's bad news." I quickly responded, No, that isn't a good report or a bad report, it simply is the finding of the tests. We're speaking of fact. He again said almost in a whisper, "That is bad."

In his book, Lila: An Inquiry Into Morals, Robert M. Pirsig writes: "The Metaphysics of Quality translated Karma as evolutionary garbage. Karma is the pain, the suffering that results from clinging to the static patterns of the world. The only exit from the suffering is to detach yourself from their static patterns, that is, to kill them."

To view my tests as good or bad is to attach myself to a static pattern of the Western Culture. To do that is to fail to live my actual experiences, is to fail to detach myself from judgments. I must see the experience. I must feel the experience. I must be here, now. I must live dynamically in this moment.
