winter of crows - page 7 (faith's final show)

. . . and mortimer gets splashed by water from the gutter. oh, my, indeed!

it's faith's final show, and she and charity are going to get some food to get ready for it . . . a little air of unreality: the 'real' faith's show happened in april, and it was, if not balmy, far from cold at the time, and dry. if she really had a final show when it was this cold, it would have been unusually early, and the snow would have been usually late. but the notion of the crows, and snow, and winter overcame my cautiousness, such as it is, in these matters.

what are faith and charity listening to? a chris isaak tape, of course. the song is from silvertone . . .

"The Lonely Ones"

If you drive late at night, and pass the town at night.
And know that someone lies awake not sleeping.
If you drive fast at night, and hear the wind at night.
And know that sometimes you can hear them weeping, the lonely ones.

The lonely ones.

And though you'd like to stop, you know it's wrong to stop.
The nights' too dark for you to ever reach them, the lonely ones.

The lonely ones.

As you drive on we drive faster, you try to leave the night behind you but wait.....
You hear them still.... You always will.

The lonely ones.

Out on the edge of town, you start to turn around.
But in your mirror you see the one who is crying, the lonely ones.

The lonely ones, the lone-ly ones!

. . . which is not the album christopher has found damaged, but a song i am sure he has listened to many, many, many times. i know i did.

i've been very lucky in my friends, undeservedly so. i was an odd, unpleasant little bastard back in the day, with useless social skills and a strong whiny streak. how much has changed i do not know. but the close friends i made in this part of my life i still have, and i count myself fortunate. alas, 'faith' lives in saint louis, damn it, but 'charity' lives only a few blocks away.

hopefully i'll be seeing faith in the next day or two . . . i don't know when she's getting in town, but she is.
