It is also know that in the anime the headmaster of Mahora, Konoe Konoemon, as a student went to school at the same time as Sayo and had a crush on her. It is unknown if the same events happened in the manga. One of the 14 out of 31 students to date in Japan in the manga that is aware that Negi is a Magi.

Character Description:

Sayo has been haunting the school for more than 60 years. Because she is a ghost that lacks spirtual power, she fails to be detected by Negi's class even though she has been there all the time. After Sayo's attempts to make friends, she is finally discovered by Negi's class. When Sayo forces her power to manifest, she can been seen by others as a ghostly figure. The only people who can see her consistenly are Kazumi, Evangeline and Mana.

Sayo Aizaka's character runs two different ways depending if you follow either the manga storyline or the anime storyline. In the manga storyline Sayo doesn't make a big appearance until chapter 74. Sayo is seen to be a very lonely person who is confined to the general school grounds. She's a little clumsy and gets scared quickly but what she really wants is to make friends. When Negi recognizes her and says her name for the haunted house class project she takes an even greater effort to try and make friends but her efforts are taken the wrong way and she would have been exorcised by Mana and Setsuna if it wasn't for Negi and Asakura. After that Sayo's personality takes a more positive climb as she becomes close friends with Asakura, is able to move around more freely, and also starts showing some feelings for Negi.

In the anime storyline Sayo's first feature episode is episode 19 (just before the Kyoto trip) and her personality is much more brighter then her manga counterpart. There she is shown to be content with just watching the students that come through 2-A and enjoying what goes on around her. When Asakura became curious about Sayo's picture she began to investigate her and her investigation led to the Tsuwabuki garden that Sayo's sister planted and where Sayo remembered how she died and where Asakura became able to see her. Later with some help from Eva everyone was able to see Sayo (who welcomed her with open arms) and she became able to make more friends and leave the school grounds. Later in the series she forms a pactio with Negi and her item is a ghost fireball.
