Mahou Sensei Negima/Magister Negi Magi - getting caught up with more backlog, chapters 60 and 61 now available for download. Having successfully completed Evangeline's challenge, the training begins. Asuna finds out that Negi had gone to Library Island from Yue and eventually a fight ensues between Asuna and Negi after a specific comment he makes. Hopefully, the two of them can make things right.

Ayaka invites Negi to where a lot of the girls show up at, including Chizuru Naba (ah yes, I remember Mutsumi so much from Love Hina). The girls really make an effort to help Negi and Asuna make up with a little plan.

This weeks anime recommendation is a series from Aniplex, J.C. Staff, and Square Enix based on a mystery story from Gangan magazine that recently began it's release in the US by Funimation Productions.

Anime Recommendation: Spiral

Story: Two years ago, Kiyotaka Narumi had vanished without a trace. He had apparently been involved in investigating something about a group known as the Blade Children. Ayumu, the younger brother of Kiyotaka since then has been haunted by the disappearance of his brother. Suddenly, some interesting cases of attempted murder have recently appear, and they all have involved people with information about the Blade Children. With each incident and case that Ayumu and his tagalong partner Kiyono the school reporter girl encounter, it'll bring him and his sister one step closer to the truth.

If mystery and intellectual crime solving are your thing, this is definitely a series for you. Each episode usually brings up a situation and/or case where crime or puzzle solving skills come into play for our main characters. Part of the fun of this series is being able to make the connection and deductions as the mystery unfolds. And with each one, we seem to learn more about the so called Blade Children who have a keen interest for Ayumu and his brother for some reason. This series was produced by Aniplex and JC Staff who are known for their recent project ROD the TV, and Square Enix who are well known in the video game world for their RPG games and even the anime adaptations of some of them such as Final Fantasy: Unlimited.

Well, I finally had some free time to catch up on some backlog of items for the sites.

Media Lists section - added the new pactio card for the Narutaki twins for the next character soundtrack that will be released in Japan on 11/26/04. Thanks to Keitaro and Hiro Daioh for the scan. Added CD cover for the Vol. 10 Character soundtrack that featured Evangeline, Chachamaru, and Sayo Aizaka. Updated Vol. 7 manga Japanese release cover. Thanks goes to Anna H for this one.

Downloads section - added one new wallpaper and the mp3 for the Vol. 10 single Maze of Darkness. Thanks to Anna H for these as well. I will upload the songs from the two Class sountracks on next update.

AquaStar Sites Contest - as many visitors have already noticed, I've been running contests for the Love Hina/Negima site for the past few months. This time, the contest will involve visitors from the Love HIna/Negima, Sister Princess sites, and forum members as well. There are two prizes up for grabs this time. Here are the rules:

-One thing that always brings more visitors to the sites is promotion by peers who run web sites as well. The job is easy when you have very decorative little banners that catch visitors attention. I need you guys to design some banners to promote the sites and/or forums

-Create three banners (1 large, 2 small) with the following minimum sizes: large - 500 x 80, small 90 x 35. They can be larger than these sizes but keep them at a reasonable size for people and myself to put on our web pages, and your submission may include more than three, but I will only pick one set of 3 as your entry. You may submit your entry for one prize pool only.

-Design: Since the sites are about Love Hina, Negima, and Sister Princess, but also about various anime series, you are NOT required to use the characters in your banner. The large banner however must mention the sites and/or forums in some way (e.g. AquaStar Anime Forums,AquaStar Anime, AquaStar Forums etc.). The small banner design is up to your own choosing, however one must relate to the sites and the other to the forums, since these will be used to link people to the sites themselves and to the forums as well.

-The two prizes for this contest will be in the Love Hina/Negima pool the character soundtrack that I'm sure a lot of people want with the pactio card included for Evangeline A.K. McDowell. For the Sister Princess pool, the winner will receive a copy of Pioneer/Geneon's release of the Sister Princess 12 Angels soundtrack due out in Dec. When submitting your entry, please indicate which prize pool you are participating in. Mahou Sensei Negima / Magister Negi Magi - chapter 59 now available for download. After all of the excitement of Negi's battle with Chachamaru, more of the girls, especially Nodoka and Yue are taking quite a interest in Negi's life as a mage. In fact, Yue shows Negi a clue relating to Library Island and the whereabouts of his father according to the map that they received from Konoka's father.

This week's anime recommendation is a series by Yukiru Sugisaki that recently began its release in the US by ADV Films.

Anime Recommendation: DNAngel

Story: A story of unrequited love and identity. Daisuke Niwa seems just like any other teenage boy going through the trials of growing up, especially when it comes to love. For Daisuke, he has eyes for Risa Harada, who has a twin sister Riku. Unfortunately, his efforts to win her heart prove to be unsuccessful. Because of this, on his 14th birthday, he is surprised to learn the truth that through his family's heritage, they carry a gene that when triggered by that particular person's love interest, they change into the legenday thief Dark. The only way for Daisuke to turn completely back to normal is to win the heart of his love, Risa, while keeping this identity secret. The problem is that she seems to be taking a romantic interest in Dark now, and there are people out to capture the legendary thief for their own reasons. Risa's sister Riku one night encounters Dark and seems to know something...

This series is available both as a manga and anime series. The production studio XEBEC's past projects include Love Hina, Zoids, Megaman NT, Fafner, Dai-Guard, Stellvia, and will be releasing Ken Akamatsu's Negima in Jan. If you look at the character designs, you'll definitely see a resemblance to Love Hina and Stellvia in it. This is accompanied by a unique mix of background designs resembling an old style European town with the trolley cars, clock towers, and stone bridges and streetways, while also having contrasting elements of more advanced technology including the computer systems and electronic lock doors. The characters themselves include the innocent Daisuke who has pure feelings of true love for Risa, Risa and Riku who are twin sisters, but have completely different personalities, with Riku being more of a tomboy, the smooth talking heartthrob of many girls Dark, the mysterious classmate of Daisuke, Satoshi and his alternate form, Krad, and even a cute little family pet rabbit named With, who apparently can transform into Dark's wings. DVD Vol. 1 is now available by ADV Films with the manga by Tokyopop up to Vol. 4 in stores now.

Forums restored - the forums are now back up and running. Unfortunately, the host service lost all of our data, so everyone starts from scratch again. The good thing is that the software they are using is much better and easier to manage, so hopefully I'll be able to take advantage of more features. Be sure you guys re-register in the forums.

I will have more updates for tomorrow with the next chapter of Negima. Winner of the site contest will be announced later this week.

Forum problems - today I noticed that the forums are down due to the SQL server errors. Armbell.com who hosts the forums has been having this problem with many groups' forums apparently. I have e-mailed them personally already and hope that this will be remedied as soon as possible.

AnimeUSA 2004 news

ADV Films - this was the only industry panel at the con. The panel was led by David Williams, Monica Rial, and Greg Ayres. The entire session was a lot of fun with a lot of questions from the crowd and trivia prizes from Greg and Monica themselves. I manage to score one of ADV's AniMini DVDs. No new official licensing announcements by David Williams. He did mention some back catalog series that would finally be making their way onto the DVD format including Debutante Detectives and Princess Minerva. There were questions pertaining to the status of the release for SuperGALs Season 2, Anime Network, and the collaboration between the ADV, Pioneer/Geneon, and Funimation for a project, with most of his answers being, "I can neither confirm nor deny." For those of you who have attended his panels at cons, this is an answer he usually gives, especially when it comes to licensing questions, as to avoid rumors from spreading, and of course as a running joke. There was one question pertaining to a license of a particular series.

(Note: This is NOT an official license announcement, so for those of you who download, distribute, or work with a fansub group, DO NOT announce it as such, until an official statement is made on Animeondvd.com, Anime News Network, or any official US anime news site). One of the last questions asked pertained to Ragnarok the Animation. He was asked if he knew if that series had been licensed since there were rumors about it. His answer was that he does know who has the license, but he won't tell us who it is.

I have just received the latest Negima character soundtrack from CDJapan featuring Evangeline. I have one extra copy each of the Ayaka and Evangeline CDs for the next site contests. And before you guys start writing Love Hina manga volume summaries, I'm going to change the entry conditions this time. First CD I will give away for this week is the Ayaka 1st pressing soundtrack which I have verified and it contains her pactio card. Here are the rules:

Love Hina site contest #4 - since I have not seen very many Negima wallpapers, I'm looking for some wallpapers to add to the site. Create a Negima wallpaper with any character, group of characters, etc. pertaining to the series. Wallpapers should be at least 1024 x 768 in size or larger. I expect this to be of your own work. I shouldn't have to explain that part. Pics from manga scans, the pactio cards, calendars, pencil boards, posters, etc. are all very good sources to get base pics to design with. All entries will be added to the site in the Downloads section where you'll be able to show off your work. Don't forget to include your username somewhere on your wallpaper. You do want credit for your work, right? All entries will be judged by erizo, myself, and several forum members. Note: Those who have previously won prizes are not eligible to enter.
