Episode 1 Events:

- Introduction of most of main characters of the series

- Keitaro becomes the Hinata Inn manager

Our story begins with a flashback of two kids heading up the stairs to the playground. While playing in the sandbox, the girl mentions about a legend that if two people really love each other and get into Tokyo U, they'll live happily ever after together. Shortly after, we see this girl saying goodbye to him as she is moving away. "Promise me that when we grow up, we'll find each other at Tokyo U".

Fifteen years later...

Meet Keitaro Urashima, the young boy who made the promise with this little girl. Unfortunately, he doesn't remember her name or even what she looked like. Yet, he still dreams of finding her at Tokyo U and his future with her. He wakes up from his dream about her a little bit sad. His story so far is that he is in prep school still trying to pass the entrance exam to the university since he's already failed twice. His parents suggest that Keitaro give up on Tokyo U and to get a job instead, since they can't keep supporting him. Shortly after, they receive a phone call from Grandma Hina who wants Keitaro to come visit her at the Hinata Inn that she owns.

Apparently, Grandma Hina has decided to retire from her duties as the apartment manager of the Hinata Inn to travel the world. To take her place, she already has made arrangements for a new manager. Naru is the only one who seems to be concerned about the living situation.

At the prep school, Keitaro is daydreaming that he got the highest exam score out of everyone and proceeds to shake people's hands until coming up to a girl with braided hair and thick glasses. After being informed by his friends Shirai and Haitani that he scored near the bottom percentile, the girl immediately panics and tries to pull herself away from Keitaro, only to slip and fall down. Irritated, she gets up and punches Keitaro right down the hall. After being knocked back and forth like a pinball, he finds that this girl has the top practice exam score. After recollecting themselves, Keitaro starts heading for the Hinata Hot Springs where his grandmother's inn is it.

Arriving at the Hinata Hot Springs, Keitaro looks around for a little bit until sitting down to take a break near the bridge. On the opposite side, he notices a young girl sitting alone looking very sad. He begins to sketch her with a smile on her face. The Hinata elders see Keitaro's little sketch and tease him by playing keep away with his sketch book until it lands at the girl's feet. She sees this and gets a little upset at Keitaro. Being extremely embarrased, Keitaro apologizes to her before running away. As he's running through the alleyways and streets, he notices that this area looks so familiar to him and remembers the way to his grandmother's place.

Arriving at the Hinata Inn, Keitaro goes in to find his grandma. No one seems to be home. So, he decides to make himself comfortable in the hot spring. A few moments later, Naru comes in to use the hot spring as well...

Naru starts talking to Keitaro, not realizing that she's talking to a guy since she doesn't have her glasses on. She swims over to Keitaro and accidentally "grabs" Keitaro. Suddenly, she realizes that there's a guy in the hot springs, flips out and starts running around with Keitaro still attached to her. After crashing into a rock, Keitaro quickly recovers and figures he'd better apologize quickly. As he bows forward to apologize, he face ends up inbetween Naru's breasts. Without hesitation, Naru delivers the first punch sending Keitaro flying into the entrance doorway and landing at Kitsune's feet.

The chase begins as Keitaro is running around with only a towel and a basket trying not to get killed. He ends up falling into the bushes from dropping off the 2nd floor of the Hinata. As he recovers, Kitsune spots Keitaro as Naru runs up charging for a hurricane kick that sends Keitaro flying into a treee. Keitaro immediately makes his way onto to the roof, as Kaolla Suu prepares her tank units to attack.

Keitaro manages to make it to the lobby but is assaulted by Suu's tanks and ends up being blasted out the front door to Naru and Kitsune. Now he's surrounded. Luckily for Keitaro, his aunt Haruka shows up and saves him.

Haruka explains to the girls that Keitaro is a Tokyo U student and that he's going to be the new apartment manager. Of course, the girls have mixed reactions about the situation, with Kitsune only interested in Keitaro for the fact that he says he wants to major in law, and Naru thoroughly objecting to it. Naru notices that Keitaro looks familiar...

Keitaro is thinking in his room about the situation. It would be nice to live with girls surrounding him, but at the same time he feels guilty about playing along with the lie about his being a Tokyo U student. Kitsune pays Keitaro a visit and begins to flirt with him until they are interrupted by Naru, who pretty much has already labelled him as a pervert. Outside that evening, Keitaro continues to contemplate telling the truth about his not being a Tokyo U student, when Haruka overhears him. He explains the situation to her. In response, she tells him that they need him to manage the apartments or otherwise it will be closed, and it may not be wise to tell the truth. In fact, if Keitaro actually passes and makes it into Tokyo U this time, it wouldn't be a lie then. Naru overhears this and remembers that he was at the prep school.

As Keitaro is doing cleaning around the apartments, he knows that he has to tell the truth. While cleaning outside in the hot springs area, he daydreams about Naru begging him to stay, until Naru actually confronts him with her glasses on and the outfit she was wearing at the prep school. Keitaro apologizes for lying and is trying to at least do something before he leaves, since he knows himself that lying about this was wrong. Naru quickly becomes concerned and asks who will take care of the apartments. As she runs forward towards him, she slips and crashes into him, knocking his glasses off and placing them in an awkward position with Naru on top of Keitaro looking directly at each other.

As Keitaro apologizes, Naru compliments Keitaro about the way he looks without his glasses. Thinking this is too good to be true, Keitaro reaches up and grabs Naru's arm. This results in Keitaro getting his face pounded into the ground by Naru as Kitsune and Suu enter. Kitsune wonders what they were doing. Naru frantically tries to explain herself, and Keitaro wants to tell the truth until Naru changes it around and covers it up. Keitaro reflects on this the next day in his hot tub on the balcony as he's thinking about Naru and that it might not be a bad idea to stay as the apartment manager. Naru overhears this, and Keitaro gets out to find where she is. She's in the hot springs below him. Naru gets mad and nails Keitaro with a long-range punch sending him into the sky.
