Ayu is the main heroine of the story. When Yuiichi comes back to the snowy town after 7 years, he runs into her in the shopping district as she is trying to run away from a taiyaki vendor. Taiyaki is Ayu's favorite food as it is what Yuiichi bought for her one day when she was crying and all alone many years ago in that same shopping district. Both Ayu and Yuiichi seem to remember each other very well, although some events from 7 years ago are still clouded in their memories. Why does she always walk around that same area? Where does she live? Also, she seems to be looking for something, but can't remember what it is. And what did happen 7 years ago? It's almost as though she's been waiting for him all this time...

Quite the childish but spirited girl, she has the signature phrase, "Uguu!" when she's about to cry, is scared, or gets frustrated. She's fun and really gets along fast with the other girls that she interacts with in the series. Another signature look to her is that she always wears the red headband and a winged backpack, which gives her a look of a little angel.
