| 343 | Sylvester Stallone | Sly Moves: My Proven Program to Lose Weight, Build Strength, Gain Will Power, and Live your Dream | Hardcover | 224 | 01 May 2005 | Collins | Fitness and Exercise |
Sly Moves: My Proven Program to Lose Weight, Build Strength, Gain Will Power, and Live your Dream Sylvester StalloneReaderRating: 4.5 (47 votes) DateAdded: 09 Dec 2006 Summary: Movie fans can argue the merits of Rocky vs. Rambo, but no one can accuse Sylvester Stallone of being a couch potato. In "Sly Moves", Stallone recounts the training methods that turned him into one of the true Hollywood hard-bodies of all time, tailoring the best and worst of what he's learned from forty years in the gym and testing trendy diets into a simple (3-hour-a-week) workout/eating program anyone can follow. Stallone mixes in plenty of personal tales from his storied career along with practical advice, including a three-day look inside the life of an action hero approaching age 60: what he eats, when he works out, what famous people he bumps into at his private Beverly Hills gym and the L.A. hot spots where he does dinner. Sly might help you tighten up those abs with three kinds of crunches, but odds are the new six pack won't get you a table next to him at Spago. Still, all the trappings of celebrity aside, you only have to check out the photos of him demonstrating his "Rambo pulldowns," "Rocky chins," or other exercises ("moves") he recommends to see he knows a thing or two about staying fit. As for how to "gain will power" and "live your dream," you could do a lot worse than listen to a guy of humble beginnings who willed himself into everything he ever dreamed of becomingone hammer curl at a time. --"Patrick Jennings"

| 344 | Bill Phillips | Eating for Life: Your Guide to Great Health, Fat Loss and Increased Energy! | Hardcover | 405 | 01 Nov 2003 | High Point Media, LLC | Fitness and Exercise |
Eating for Life: Your Guide to Great Health, Fat Loss and Increased Energy! Bill PhillipsReaderRating: 4.5 (135 votes) DateAdded: 09 Dec 2006 Summary: Did you truly enjoy the food you ate today? Do you really like the way you look and feel? Are you consistently enjoying great health and high energy? Bill Phillips, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Body-for-LIFE, believes your answer to all of the above questions should be, "Yes!" He feels that food should be a source of pure pleasure. A source of positive, abundant energy! A "sure thing" in a world of much uncertainty. Phillips, who's widely regarded as today's most successful fitness author, has firm beliefs which go against the grain of today's popular weight-loss methods. "Diets, all of them, are potentially dangerous, most always dumb and ultimately a dead-end street!" he insists. "Eventually, anyone and everyone who's at all concerned with their health must learn how to feed their body, not how to starve it." Instead, Phillips encourages a safe and sound solution which includes eating balanced, nutrient-rich meals, frequently throughout the day. "This is what works in the long run," he explains. Rich with common sense and science, Eating for Life has rhyme and reason. It is specific. There are very clear dos and don'ts which help people enjoy food and improve their overall fitness. Bill's approach, which he calls the "Eating for Lifestyle," has already helped thousands of people break free from the dieting dilemma and discover that, contrary to pop-culture belief, food is friend, not foe. Used intelligently, it nourishes the body and mind, satisfies the appetite, calms cravings, renews health and lifts energy. Like Bill Phillips' Body-for-LIFE, this is a tell-it-like-it-is book. There's no promise of a quick fix. No metabolic tricks or so-called miracles. Just straightforward, clear, concise, practical and appropriate principles for eating right... for life.

| 345 | Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bill Dobbins | The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding : The Bible of Bodybuilding, Fully Updated and Revised | Trade Paperback | 832 | 01 Nov 1999 | Simon & Schuster | Fitness and Exercise |
The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding : The Bible of Bodybuilding, Fully Updated and Revised Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bill DobbinsReaderRating: 4.5 (231 votes) DateAdded: 05 Dec 2006 Summary: Arnold Schwarzenegger hasn't competed as a bodybuilder since he won the Mr. Olympia title in 1980, but he remains the sport's No. 1 icon. He hosts an annual bodybuilding contest in Columbus, Ohio, and allows a column to be ghost-written under his name in a muscle magazine. Today's bodybuilders may have bigger muscles than Arnold ever did, but everyone inside and outside the iron game gives him credit for exponentially broadening the popularity of physique training. With this updated "Encyclopedia" (it was originally published in 1985), Schwarzenegger wraps his huge arms around the entire sport. He hits the history of bodybuilding, the champions (he's quite generous in his praise of predecessors, contemporaries, and successors alike), the training systems. Some of the information is more bodybuilding lore than science; for example, exercises are said to "expand the rib cage" or develop the "inner" or "outer" chest, all physiological impossibilities. But they're still good exercises, and the book includes every movement imaginable for every muscle group. If you love the sport of bodybuilding, you'll want this book in your library, if for no other reason than to feast your eyes on the hundreds of photos of the best physiques in the history of the sport. And, in a pinch, the 800-page encyclopedia can fill in nicely for a missing dumbbell. "--Lou Schuler"

Ironman's Ultimate Guide to Bodybuilding Nutrition Ironman MagazineReaderRating: 2.5 (4 votes) DateAdded: 05 Dec 2006 Summary: This book wasn't great. I don't like the format of this book the way it was written by several different contributors. I don't feel it has any particular flow or direction. It touches of some supplements and on the macro and micronutrients but doesn't outline any particular diets for anything. If you want to read a little about effervescent creatine, a little about protein, a little about calcium, and a little about a few other topics then I guess this book would be for you but you can find way better information in other books or online. I don't recommend this book.
