Puzzle Shards

Secrets passed in a hushed locale
Vital puzzle pieces, flattened under the couch
How much easier it would be with all the pieces.
A picture forms
It grins back at you with blackened teeth,
and regrets pour fourth.

What made us so eager to see?
What gruesome spectacle did we expect to greet?
The pieces slash like jagged glass
The jig-saw cuts and blood flows

If only we had left the monster in the shadows...
the puzzle pieces left in the box.
But the beast stares back at you from bloodied tears
It smiles its smile and calls you "friend."
