about
I am Soona, a graphic designer, born in Tokyo, based in Haarlem, the Netherlands.
My graphic design journey has started in Tokyo where I joined a small graphic design studio focusing on design for theatre plays and movies. Under the mentorship of one of the top Japanese designers, Masakatsu Ogasawara, I have learned the design process from start to finish. After three yeas it was time to start on my own as a freelance graphic designer. One of my major clients was Yo Hitoto, a popular Tiwanese-Japanese pop singer. I designed flyers, posters, T-shirts, art books and news letter for her official fan club.
After years in Tokyo I continued my journey in Singapore and New York. I joined both full time and freelance projects in areas such as branding and editorial design. Due to the diverse nature of these international projects, I believe that my eyes and sense have grown to capture the character of a project more efficiently and accurately. In NYC, I have also taken some identity, typography and poster design courses at School of Visual Arts to broaden my design possibilities. By impressive instructors such as James Victore at SVA, I learned a more conceptual and innovative way of thinking.
In 2008 I moved to Amsterdam working on some freelance and personal project.
