Sightings
Occasionally we come across a Ranger boat unknown to us, or in an unusual
context, or that for some other reason catches our eye.

Looks like the owner of this Ranger 20 is about to need some
good insurance. (Elliott Bay Navy News, January 2000)
In this scan of a printed photograph, an R-20 is tied up next to the
featured boat in the Nor'Sea 27
brochure. Nor'Seas are (were?) built in California. Click here for a better look.
- An R-20 is featured prominently, with its skipper at the helm, in promotional
photographs for a hotel chain that has a location on Moses Lake, WA. It's
unclear whether the boat was hired or just happened to be there at the
same time as the camera. One is inclined to favor the latter explanation,
but the former might make sail #452 the only Ranger 20 to have earned her
owner any money. UPDATE: The owner was bought dinner.
- In response to the first newsletter article on sightings, Bob
Rose of Salem, OR (#470) sent us a nice photo-postcard of an R-20, sail
# 139, sailing in the late afternoon on Yaquina Bay. "I picked this
up last summer in Newport. I was just a little surprised to see an R20
on a postcard."
- Icom, a local company, has used the R-20 in one of its ads; year 2000,
I think.
- Near the end of the "Washington, the Beautiful" video is
a boat (seen from above, if I recall it right) that looked on my little
TV screen like it may be an R-20. Has anyone else seen this?
- Ward Staubitz saw an R-20 near the Potomac River: "I was bicycling
along the Potomac River...south of Alexandria, VA. I dropped by a small
marina and what did I find but a Ranger 20 sitting on a trailer in dry
storage. It appears not to have been out this year. Next time when I [go]
that way, I'l drop by a copy of the newsletter and my card."
- Cindy and I saw an R-24 in a marina in Sausalito a few years ago (ca.
1977).
- During a television news story presented on KIRO-TV at about 17:30
on Wednesday 19 February 2003, in the background a Ranger 20 appeared on
its trailer, hitched to a dark-colored truck. The boat was white with
blue stripes, with very dark--black?--bottom paint. The story was about
off-leash dogs in a Kirkland park. Part of the story was taped during
daylight hours, with a pretty good view of the boat's forward half in good
light, and part was live, with a dimmer & more distant view of the
boat behind the reporter. This may the only R-20 to have appeared on television.
If you spot a Kent Ranger in an unexpected place or context, let me know.
