Kent Ranger Sailing Association -- NewsletterWe've nearly frittered away another winter and its time to start contemplating something other than our navels & the TV remote. The club had a wonderful Christmas Party / Meeting at Dick & Nan Rice's home 12/9/00. As is our usual custom it was much more party than meeting with lots of great food and visiting. Thanks again to Dick and Nan for hosting this great event.
Also, as is our custom, part of the agenda for this winter meeting is the Shanghai-ing ("election") of officers for the new year. Karen Peterson our out going Commodore accomplished this task admirably. Linda Attaway has agreed to assume the role of Commodore (she has held the office previously) and John Muirhead agreed to continue as Treasurer (he mentioned something about needing new radar). Linda and her R20 Quintessence will do a good job on this position. Linda, in keeping with current events, has decided on a cabinet approach to handling the affairs of state next year. Those cabinet positions and people are as follows:
Communication Steve Metz Web Master Mark Kelsey R20 Leader Jack & Bobbie Berg Cruise Director Mike Hopkinson & Steve Metz
Note: Most of these are self explanatory but the new cabinet post of R20 Leader is a post that the Berg's have agreed to pull together the Ranger 20 owners to address R20 issues more specifically. They have had some get togethers and have done a good job opening that line of communication, I can't think of anyone better suited for this task. The only down side of this is that we have to warn all of those R20 owners not to be depressed when they see how beautiful Rugga Rugga is and how well organized Jack and Bobbie are, they give us all something to strive for.
There are a couple of exciting options to consider this summer. Mike & Steve have proposed & offered to organize a 2-week trip to the San Juan Islands this summer with a twist. The proposal is to go to only 3 destination for several days each. The thought here is that we will have time to sail during the day, or explore by land, or fish/crab, lounge, drink Fluffy Ducks on in general enjoy a beautiful part of the country and our chosen method of transportation, rather than traveling each day to get to a new destination. We can discuss this more at the Breakfast and will try to have more details.
The other option here is that Linda is trying to find out who would be interested in meeting in Desolation Sound, B.C., June 21 for a couple of weeks. She chartered for that trip last year and had a great time. I'm not sure if she is planning to trailer her Ranger up or charter again but either way this should be a great trip.
If you have access and are not using the website you may be missing the boat (love those nautical metaphors). Mark is doing a great job with the site and it gets better every time we look at it. Besides some super event pictures there are calendars, maps, information, boat links, schedules and much more to surprise and amaze you.
Our next scheduled event is our annual planning breakfast. This is a fun event and has traditionally had very good attendance. It is a time when we get together and plan events and even coordinators for the next season. So bring your calendars your appetite and some thoughts on places you would like us to go this summer.
Like last year the breakfast will be at the "Old Country Buffet" in Federal Way on January 21 at 9:00 am. The info, maps etc is on the website.
By popular request we've ordered some more burgees. They will be made the the same company as before and will run $20.00. The burgee lady has committed to have them done in time for the breakfast. We've only ordered 30 so come prepared and be the first at your dock to proudly display your Ranger pride.
