Kent Ranger Sailing Association

Hardware Suppliers for R-20

Here is a list of suppliers of hardware and stuff for the Ranger 20. Some of it may apply to other Ranger boats as well, but this has not been verified.

I don't have good information about sailmakers, but there may be several who can do what's needed. Maybe they need only the boat's measurements; in some cases they may consult a book.

Very little of this has been verified recently.

Built the boat:

Ranger Fiberglass Boat Co. SEE BELOW*
25802 Pacific Highway S.
Kent, WA 98032
253-839-5213

The company has been sold, but the new owners have expressed an interest in good owner relations. However, it appears that there may be _some_ they don't know about the boat, and that they may no longer have as ready access to parts and accessories as in the past. Do give them a chance, though, by calling them first. Only if they hear from us will they know that we are still out here and active. --Mark_

* New Name
"Ranger isn't in the phone book or directory assistance. They also do
business under Martini Marine but it isn't listed."

Update: The new company is looking for someone to take all of the Ranger
sailboat molds. There has been some little progress on that front,
although nothing is final. One set of Minto molds has already gone--to
member Steve M. (Keptie). (November 2001)
Update2 (long overdue): Mike E. (Sweet Chance) has been in business, Seattle Boat Shows and everything, for two or three years building Mintos as Rich Passage Mintos. My apologies to all concerned for neglecting to mention it here until now. (I forgot. Really.) 24 September 2008

(Seaview Boatyard East)
Seattle, WA 98107

Pete Farsje (_La Brisa_) and I (Mark Kelsey, _Ruby_) are both pleased about
our dealings with this company. When I was there, pictures of Ranger boats
(20, 24, 26) were still on his wall.

Pete said recently:
This week I took my [R-20] mast in for repair to Yacht Riggers.
Peter Hofmann is the rigging expert and will have my mast repaired
in a few days. I have found him knowledgable and pleasant to work
with and he said to tell the club not to hesitate to call him with
questions.
I inquired on the cost of new masts, etc. and learned the
following which I thought the few of you still sailing Rangers
might find useful (I hope you never need the info!).

- New extrusion - $500 (has 4 in stock, same as San Juan 21).
- New extrusion and transfer of your old rigging onto the new
mast - $1,000 to 1,100.
- Replace the rigging - He was iffy on the price - $400 seemed
to be about the cost.

March 2003 - Despite having been bought by Seaview, they continue operating with the old business name on the building.

September 2008 - I have just spoken with a helpful fellow there, Operations Manager Jeff Packer, who told me that Mr. Hofmann is no longer around. He told me also that the owner might be interested in having the small molds for Ranger sailboats. (Centerboards, rudders, etc.) Finally, he told me that they still have some Ranger hardware. The above telephone number is apparently new, as is their web site (above).
