About These Pages

Over the years, the Ranger factory and avid owner-sailors of the Kent Ranger 20 sailboat have generated a series of "technical bulletins" and projects for improving upon the original design of the R-20. Some of these were "luxury" options, intended to make the boat handier, more comfortable, more beautiful. One or two are recommended for those who would like to make the boat perform better, and at least two safety-related modifications are very highly recommended.

There is copyrighted material here, included without the permission of the holders of the copyrights. Since this is not a public area (see our notice on this subject), we feel that this is not a problem. However, in deference to the rights of the owners of the trademarks, text, and other materials, please don't share indiscriminately.

Eventually the whole manual will be here. For right now, just a little of it is ready for posting. Should you see something in the table of contents that you would like for me to post next, feel free to get in touch. UPDATE: Nearly everything "current" is in place.

Some of the image files in this directory are fairly large, so they take a fair amount of time to load. They are all grayscale, which helps in that regard, but a slow connection may require patience. Sailors should be accustomed to exercising this particular discipline.

Price quotes and boat specifications are contained in advertising and journalistic materials here. This is historical material, so don't assume that such prices and specs obtain at present. Moreover, the presence here of Ranger Boat Co. advertising is not to be construed as their offer to build you a Ranger 20 (at the cited price or at any other); they have for the past several years always declined to do so when approached. However, the company has been sold recently; perhaps no great harm would result from asking the new folks.

Anyway, these materials represent the way things were--nothing more--and are presented here for the entertainment and convenience of members of the Kent Ranger Sailing Association and their guests and assigns. Permission for free public access is not to be assumed.

Remember the general rule that any picture your browser can display to you, you can copy onto your local disk. At present, our Web site occupies ISP disk space provided without cost. This situation cannot be relied upon to last forever, so if you see something to which you think you may want access later, copy it to your own disk now.

Display note and tip: I apologize for the condition of some of these scans, some of which were made from nth-generation photocopies. The photos are especially poor, so I have some real photos on another page. All told, there is some redundancy, but I wanted good coverage. If anything here is unreasonably difficult to make out, get in touch with me and I'll help if I can. Note that some of the scanned text and other details can be read more easily when displayed at 200% size; your browser may not be able to do this, but a graphics program can. Download to your local disk, enlarge, and enjoy.

I hope you find this material helpful.

(Not everything is actually here yet. Feel free to request something. mdk_)

Note: In 1996 I began assembling a "reference" version intended to contain everything we have. In the course of that work I encountered numbering and titling inconsistencies among several sets of technical bulletins. I attempted to resolve such discrepancies by comparing copies, but sometimes I just had to assign numbers and titles as best I could.

Update: This is just about the last of the material that I thought important to have included here. If I have missed something _you_ need, just ask.
