Where Have We Been?
April 09, 2008
ON VACATION!!!
We took a break from our "Adventures With The School District" for a while. In fact, took a break from everything! On Saturday we drove about 350 miles south to stay on the Oregon coast in Lincoln City. Our good friends Lisa and Jack along with Lisa's mom and stepdad gave us the gift of 4 nights at their family's condo there!
AND IT WAS FANTASTIC!!!
The kids are on spring break, so I took a few days off and we headed out. Ben brought his friend Josh with us so he would have someone to hang out with, and we all had a great time! The weather was a bit wet, but nothing more than we expected from the Oregon coast in April.
On the drive down we stopped to see the Tillamook Cheese Factory.
This was our lunch stop as they have a great little visitor center there. They have one of those self-guided tours you can walk through and see different exhibits. It was really busy and loud which makes it very difficult for me to pay attention at these type of things. Add to that trying to keep track of Kai and Shen and we didn't really get much out of the tour. Based on what I saw, it appeared that they were mining cheese from some huge deposit nearby, then cutting the harvested blocks into small usable chunks.
It also appeared that they were manufacturing other items out of the cheese. Apparently you can make ice cream, milk, and I think even whole cows out of cheese!
Again, I didn't pay a lot of attention to the details of what was going on, but it was pretty impressive, and they make a great grilled cheese sandwich!
The condo we stayed in was just up the hill from the beach with a nice view of the ocean and everything we needed to just relax and have fun. The boys were very impressed with the big waves!
We had lots of fun beachcoming and exploring the shoreline.
We made a little day trip down to the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport. All the boys enjoyed seeing the fish close up.
While Kai and Shen were content to hang out with Tina and Me, the big boys spent most of their time constructing their own little condo down on the beach where they spent their evenings burning any dry wood they could find.
.
They even let us come down and visit them one afternoon.
We had a great time on the Oregon coast and look forward to going back soon!
