I've enjoyed Jonathan Coulton's songs for a while now, and I've especially enjoyed his song "Mandelbrot Set." This catchy, upbeat song does a very good job of talking about fractals and the history of Benoit Mandelbrot and the Mandelbrot Set with a sense of humor.

I heard Mr. Coulton talking about how he wanted people to make music videos for his songs (I hope I'm remembering that right) during an interview with Jawbone Radio, and I decided that my class would take a little break from the regular curriculum to make a video and learn about the topics of the song.

We spent a few days doing some activities to learn about fractals, and then started in on making the video and preparing presentations. We took about two weeks in February 2006 for the whole project.

Update: We sent the project to JC who posted about it on his blog. Since that publicity, we've had over a thousand people from all over the globe see our video. Thanks for all the nice comments!
